The Annual Dunston Scarecrow Weekend

I can enter the competition! I’ve got an invisible scarecrow in my hand! – JD, 3

As the weather was shockingly good this weekend, we took a trip a few villages over to The Annual Dunston Scarecrow Weekend.

For two days very year, residents from around the Lincolnshire village (which incidentally is very pretty) build fantastic scarecrows and put them outside their homes to be judged by visitors who can collect a map and voting slip from the village green.

After walking round admiring people’s creations, we grabbed some orange squash and cake at Dunston Village Hall and then JD also got to sit in a fire engine and turn the siren on before we headed home.

All in all, a nice way to kill a couple of hours. I’ll let the pics below do the talking.

  4. Love a good scarecrow comp, they do a great one near us too! Loving the crowquet ones!

    • Thanks for commenting, Annwen :) Crowquet was my favourite one too. I might try to instigate the tradition in my village for next year – JD would LOVE to make a display.
