JD joins the Micro Scooter craze

I’m scooting! Look, I’m scooting! – JD, 4

If you head down to our local park at the weekend, you’ll be greeted by a blur of children whizzing about on scooters. And nine in every ten of those scooters will be a Micro Scooter – it seems to be the most popular brand around and I can see why.

JD was sent one for review a few weeks ago and he loves it. I just stand there wondering how he grew up so fast while he whizzes around fearlessly.

Here’s what we like about it:

  • It’s funky looking – ours is a special edition Union Jack one.
  • It’s light weight – light enough, in fact, for me to carry with two fingers, while crossing the road, pushing Miss J’s Xplory and holding JD’s hand.
  • It handles well – steering happens by turning the handle bars, which leans the foot plate in the appropriate direction. JD was able to master this quickly.
  • It’s durable – JD has been riding it up and down the slightly gravelly park paths for weeks and the transparent wheels still look pretty great.

The only slight issue JD had at first was with the brake at the back. Although it’s great to have one, JD kept stepping backwards on to it by mistake, causing the scooter to stop suddenly and ping him off. No harm was done though – just make sure they wear a helmet!

This size model costs £49.95 or £59.95 for the Union Jack model pictured (which also comes with a special clip-on Union Jack) bag. It’s  more than I’d spend on a short-lived craze, but as it seems to wear well and suits children of 3-5 years, it could last a child 2+ years, which is great value.

There are models available for younger and older children too.

Disclosure: we were sent a micro scooter free of charge for review. No payment was received. All posts are 100% honest.

  1. They look cool and very practical – not sure we bought the right scooter for H.

  2. We’ve had so much use from out mini micros. Z had one when he was 2 and a half and used it until he was 4.5, when we bought him the adult version, but now little H is using his. i LOVE them!
