Why you should go and see Despicable Me 2 (review)

That was even better than the first one – JD, 5

We saw Despicable Me 2 last week, courtesy of Cineworld, and JD loved it as much as he loved the first one. I enjoyed it too. It’s funny and heartwarming, the characters are likable and the plot is engaging.

A lot of people have asked me if it’s ‘as good’ as the first film, but that’s a difficult question to answer as, to me, they feel like very different films in a lot of ways. In the first film, Gru (the superb Steve Carell) starts out as a baddie, but by the end he has made his transition from villain to father. Hence, in Despicable Me 2, he’s not bad anymore and he’s not lonely anymore, so this new film rightly follows a new type of plot line in recognition of the new Gru.

I really don’t want to give too much away, but suffice to say, the awesome minions are still a big part of the action…

And Gru’s need to be great, and his weakness for a bit of rivalry crops up once again but with and added twist…

rivalry

There were many, many points in the movie where Joel was laughing out loud and a few ocassions where I was laughing even louder. Go see it, you won’t regret it :)
