There’s no denying it: we’re most definitely into the colder months of the year. The heating is on, the jumpers are out, and I’m getting through vats of tea. A quick glance out of the window only confirms things: falling leaves, autumn drizzle, and less daylight are all doing their best to make those gloriously warm summer days a distant memory.
But just because summer is officially over for this year, that’s no reason to stop embracing what we love about the warmer months, is it? It’s only the weather that’s changed, so why shouldn’t we carry on enjoying the flavours, leisure activities and family fun that are traditionally associated with summer? I think it’s a brilliant way to cheer yourself up, and have a bit of a giggle into the bargain.
I’m working with Onken to try out their new limited edition Coconut Biopot yogurt. It combines real coconut pieces with creamy yogurt and natural coconut flavouring, making it a tropical taste experience. It’s utterly delicious, and also a fantastic way to bring a taste of summer into the colder months.
So, taking Onken Coconut as my inspiration, here are my top ideas to make the sun shine indoors.
Bring the poolside inside
OK, so you can’t install a pool in your living room, but you can still create a poolside vibe. Dig out your lilo and position it next to the fire, pop on your shades, play some chill-out tunes, and you’ve got your very own little bit of holiday indoors. I’m sure the kids would be happy to re-create splashing about in the pool by flicking water at you too…
Fake the spa experience
We all love a little bit of relaxing spa luxury when we’re on holiday, don’t we? With a bit of imagination you can be right back there; just pop a warm towel on your face (get those radiators multi-tasking) while soaking your toes in a washing-up bowl. And you don’t have to put up with the tinkly music either.
Play the towel game
Set your alarm early for this one. Before the rest of the family wakes up, your mission is to sneak downstairs and lay out beach towels on all of the chairs. Whenever anyone tries to approach, give them your iciest “I’ve claimed that” glare. Complete the hotel pool effect by making them sit on the floor while you luxuriate in your wealth of chair options.
The easier (and tastier) option
Forget giving your house a holiday feel and give your tastebuds the summer treatment instead, with Onken Coconut. A bowl of creamy, coconut yogurt, topped with juicy tropical fruit – it doesn’t get more summery than that. OK, it does if you pop a cocktail umbrella in there too.
What do you think – have I nailed the summer vibe for the colder months? Obviously this is a bit of fun, but I do think it’s a great idea to aim for some laid-back summer attitude at this time of year. With back to school juggling, the inevitable coughs and colds, and the crazy pre-Christmas rush, things can get a bit serious and grey, so for me anything that lightens the mood and creates a more sunshine-y atmosphere can only be a good thing. And Onken Coconut really is summer in a pot, so that’s a great place to start!
Onken Coconut costs £1.40 per pot and is available for a limited time nationwide. Will you be adding it to your trolley and bringing a little bit of summer into the colder months?
Let me know if you do!
