How’s your Christmas shopping going? It’s not long now until the big day, but I bet a lot of us still have a few gifts left to buy. I thought I was all done, but I’ve realised I still need to pick up a last couple of presents for the kids and make the obligatory dash around the supermarket.
I do a lot of my gift shopping online. As well as avoiding the crowds, it allows me to fit my shopping in around other family commitments. While I rely quite heavily on web purchases at this time of year, I do find that browsing ideas and finding inspiration can be a little tricky online. If you’ve ever spent ages scrolling through page after page of products that aren’t necessarily relevant to the person you’re buying for, then you’ll know what I mean.
I find this particularly true when shopping for gifts for kids. Unless you have a very specific product in mind, you naturally want to browse a few options. The problem is, selecting the ‘toys and games’ category online can bring up thousands of results, covering a huge age range, budget and area of interest. Narrowing down the initial search into a relevant shortlist isn’t always a case of a few simple mouse clicks – I know I’ve spent hours doing just that on more than one occasion.
And when you decide to revisit something you spotted earlier in the list, it can be a nightmare tracking it down again. Before you know it, a quick online shopping session has turned into a marathon, and you’re still nowhere nearer to finishing that present list. Sounds familiar?!
As you can probably guess from my slight tone of desperation, I’m always on the lookout for online retailers that can take the hassle out of gift shopping by helping me simplify my search. This year I’ve been using the Boots Christmas Gift Finder, to help me narrow down the choices and find the perfect present.
The Boots Gift Finder is quick and easy to use. You just click through 5 choices to personalise your product selection. These include things like age, price bracket and area of interest, so you can really tailor the search to a particular recipient.
Him/Her is also one of the options you can toggle to influence the products shown. So for example, if you’re looking for gifts for adults, you might be presented with aftershave or perfume depending on which you select. However, it’s great to see that there’s no gender bias where there needn’t be. For example, the pink Plum play kitchen appears as a suggestion for both boys and girls. Bravo!
Once you’ve got your results, a quick click will either dismiss each product, or add it to a wishlist for you to visit later.
I love this feature. There’s no need to remember lots of products, or have endless tabs open in your browser. You can also track back to previous products if you change your mind about something.
I’ve found that the gift finder does throw up the odd product which isn’t very relevant to the recipient I’ve specified, but overall it’s really useful and has saved me a lot of time. It also stops my inner child getting distracted by cool toys that have no relevance to my family!
Once you’ve finished going through the products, you can head to your wishlist and review the contents. All the prices are clearly displayed, and you can view more details for each item by clicking the ‘i’ symbol, or add them to your basket and checkout in the usual way. You do need to click on the product from the basket screen to see full details and reviews, but this is hardly arduous.
I think the Boots Gift Finder is a great little tool to help you with your online gift shopping. It’s easy to use, covers all ages, and does a good job of producing relevant gift ideas. It’s saved me a lot of time, and I’ve also picked up some really inspired ideas for presents that I probably wouldn’t have found by wading through a long list of search results.
Will you be using the Boots Gift Finder to take the hassle out of your online shopping this week?
