I feel so proud! – JD, 4
Earlier this week, we attended a blogger event at Red Hot World Buffet in Nottingham – a cake making contest held to mark the launch of their new artisan take-home cake range – and left with a gold medal.
After an eyeopening masterclass in cheesecake making from Darshan Choudhari, Head Pastry Chef, we took a cake sponge each and started decorating, using a huge range of ingredients from strawberry mousse and marmalade to berries and candy balls. JD took the lead and executed his design like a pro. I helped, but I got thoroughly chastised when I put chocolate flakes in the wrong place and had to remove them – the boy clearly had a vision!
The staff came round and chatted with us all, making us feel very welcome, and JD was in his element. When it came time to judge a winner, I was still busy stressing that it’s the taking part that matters when JD’s name was called and he was presented with a meal voucher and an engraved gold medal. He was beaming and I may have shed a crafty tear.
The event was great from start to finish. The venue was clean and bright, the staff were friendly, polite and genuine, the activities were huge fun, and the children and adults alike stayed engaged throughout.
We’re looking forward to heading back to use the voucher JD won – I’ll post a review when we do.
Disclosure: we attended an event at Red Hot World Buffet and ate lots of cake. Joel won a medal and meal voucher. No payment was received. All posts are 100% honest.
