Remember last week I told you about Urban Curling? Yep, this Summer, Spontex– makers of innovative household cleaning products, from cloths to scourers to mops – are on the road, setting up a wonderfully bizarre challenge across five major UK cities.
Today I’ve been with the team in Leeds, watching the first day of action as it happens, and it’s brilliant fun.
Loads of people have stopped to have a go, and there are prizes to be won all week too!
As you can see, there are two lanes of kitchen floor, two mops, two contestants and a race to clean the length of the floor before your rival.
This, my friends, is Urban Curling.
Come and try it out for yourself!
As I write, the time to beat in Leeds was just over three seconds, and in Manchester, someone completed the challenge in an even faster time than that!
I managed a pretty respectable 7.75 seconds.
Think you can do better? You don’t have to book, just head down to the Spontex rig in one of these cities as the fun continues all week:
- 11am-7pm, 12th August, Bullring shopping centre, Birmingham
- 11am-7pm, 13th August, St David’s Shopping Centre, Hill St, Cardiff.
- 11am – 7pm, 14th August, Intu Lakeside, Thurrock (Car park 3)
The mop in action
This is the nifty bit of kit everyone’s using in the challenges this week: the Spontex Full Action System.
The system (RRP £29.99) has a few features you won’t get with your standard mop and bucket.
The Spontex Full Action System Fringe Spin Mop slots into the bucket, and the handle moves up and down, causing the mop to spin rapidly.
This wrings and rinses the mop head really quickly and easily, so there’s no slopping an overly wet mop on the floor, or faffing around trying to clean the mop under the tap.
We’ve been trying the system out at home and it’s a really handy feature, as with small children very prone to running around the house without the slightest care, we can’t have a mop that leaves the floor slippery and wet for hours after use.
The cleaning power of this mop is really good too. As we have vinyl on top of rather old wooden floors in our kitchen, the surface is quite uneven, but the microfibre fringes hang down around a central microfibre pad, so it seems to clean a large surface area, and absorb excess liquid really quickly.
The pack comes with one mop head, which is machine washable and suitable for use on tiles, laminate and wood. We haven’t had to replace our mop head yet, but refills are only £4.99, so it won’t cost a lot to keep this mop going strong.
Have your kitchen cleaned for you!
One last thing…I have a very cool prize for one lucky reader. If you’d like to have a professional cleaner pop round and give your kitchen a clean, just complete the widget
