I love cinnamon, and I bet you do too. Sprinkled onto porridge or stirred into an apple crumble, it’s just gorgeous, but there’s so much more you can do with it, and so I’ve put together four brand new ideas to show you just how versatile cinnamon can be.
I’ve been inspired to create this range of creative cinnamon tweaks by Schwartz, who have just re-branded their jars of herbs and spices with a clear bottle designed with:
- Freshness seals to lock in flavour – meaning your herbs and spices last longer.
- A new wide opening, so that you can easily fit a teaspoon in the jars.
- A new shape so that the jars stack easily on top of one another – a real win for those of us with limited cupboard space!
I’m a regular user of Schwartz herbs and spices because they’re a consistently great quality choice, and I love the changes made to the packaging. The improvements should prove very useful and of course, they look great.
It has been an absolute blast developing these ideas and exploring the versatility of cinnamon – it really has so many uses! Check these out.
Breakfast: Cinnamon apple porridge bake!
Did you know you can BAKE porridge? Just whip up your favourite porridge, sweeten with a dash of maple syrup, add eggs, pop in a greased tray and bake! Here I’ve flavoured with 1 tsp of cinnamon for warmth and added a couple of chopped apples for a delicious way to one of your five a day. It’s so good!
Starter: Cinnamon coriander hummus!
Want to make a fantastic starter that will blow everyone away, but don’t really have the time? Take some store-bought hummus and chuck in the blender with a handful of fresh coriander, a squeeze of lemon, 1/4-1/2 tsp of cinnamon and a good pinch of pepper. Spoon into a bowl, sprinkle with pomegranate seeds and serve with warm flatbread. You’re sure to impress!
Dinner: Cinnamon chilli!
Cinnamon chilli! Have you ever tried adding cinnamon to your favourite chilli recipe? It’s so good! Just whip up your favourite chilli – vegetables or meat, it’s up to you – and sprinkle in a teaspoon of cinnamon before you set it to simmer. It will add a whole new dimension to your favourite dinner.
Dessert: Cinnamon plum parcels!
Cinnamon plum parcels! It’s plum season right now in the UK and with a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, a squeeze of lemon, a tablespoon of sugar and a sheet of puff pastry, you can whip up an amazingly simple, delicious dessert. Just slice the plums thinly, toss in the sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon and use to fill your pastry parcels before baking to perfection. Autumn on a plate and just dreamy with ice cream!
