How much do you use your phone, tablet or laptop when on a family break?
Center Parcs has been doing some research about how much time families spend on technology while on holiday. Just click here for more info – the findings might surprise you!
Center Parcs has also created a quiz to help you find out how your family compares to the rest of the UK. Just answer a few simple multiple choice questions and the quiz will tell you whether you’re ‘trapped in technology’.
I tried it out and, as I suspected, I got the trapped in technology result. Oops! I’d certainly confess to being on my phone, even during holidays, but we do try to find a healthy balance.
For example, we might switch off our phones for a good few hours while we walk in nature, grab lunch and enjoy each other’s company. Then, in the afternoon we might head back to our villa/hotel/tent for a rest, and in that time, I’d definitely click my phone on for a while, catch up with friends and so on, but back it goes to my pocket when we head out again. Our digital cameras are another matter, we rarely adventure without them, but it makes us climb higher, look further and have more fun – it’s our favourite family hobby.
I think the key is to ensure that technology doesn’t impinge on family life, only enhance it; to enjoy a family game on a tablet or a Skype call to Grandma, but hold on to the ability, when blessed with a family moment, to be able to put your phone in your pocket and leave it there while you enjoy life through your own eyes.
Why not take take the quiz now and let me know what result you get?
