It’s a real knife! – JD
I have written often of my belief in the importance of getting kids involved in the kitchen from a young age, with close supervision of course. I truly believe that not only will it make them better cooks when they’re older but it will also help them to think more intelligently about what goes into their food and therefore encourage them to make healthier choices as they grow up.
For that reason, I’m really keen on this Opinel Le Petit Chef chopping set.
Each item in the set has wooden handles, stainless steel blades and plastic finger holes. It’s designed specifically for little hands and comes with a finger guard, peeler and sharp knife with a rounded tip.
JD was surprised at first to be given a relatively sharp knife to chop with but after a shaky start, he began to realise that as long as he kept his fingers inside the finger guard, he was perfectly safe. From there, he began to really enjoy the independence of being able to chop proper food by himself.
The vegetable peeler is also very sharp and JD has yet to build confidence with this one. I think it will come with age.
You can pick up a Opinel Le Petit Chef knife set from Summerill & Bishop for £39.95.
