It’s beautiful! – Mum
Have you ever given jewellery to a loved one? Did you go in-store to choose it or order online? Was it a surprise for them or did you shop together?
Prior to this week, the only times I’d been jewellery shopping was for my engagement and wedding rings with my husband. Those were endlessly romantic experiences with very little cash to spare but lots of excitement and loved up giggling. My rings are really the only pieces of jewellery I own or wear, so they’re extremely important to me and I know how much a piece of jewellery can mean.
So when Beaverbrooks got in touch and asked me if I’d like to experience the Beaverbrooks way of helping customers discover their beautiful ranges of jewellery and watches, how could I refuse? I was given a budget of £100 and a simple brief: choose a gift or gifts for a person or people you love. Exciting!
Ahead of visiting the store, I hopped on to the Beaverbrooks website and had a look through the extensive range of choices to get an early feel for what I might select. You can search by jewellery type, price range, metal type and so on so it’s quite easy to narrow it down to just the right options. After getting distracted by £15,000 watches (oh my, so pretty), I eventually decided that I would aim to get a necklace or pendant for my mum and earrings for my mother-in-law (don’t worry, I’ve given both recipients their gifts early to avoid spoilers!)
So, off I trotted to the Nottingham store in the Victoria Centre feeling quite nervous and unsure what to expect. I was greeted warmly, offered a drink and ushered to a seating area in the centre of the bright, airy store.
The sales assistant, Niall, obviously knew his stuff and started by asking some questions about who I was buying for, what sort of style they had, if I had any pieces in mind and so on. He really put me at ease and I can honestly say I enjoyed the whole experience.
We chose something for my mum first, with Niall bringing out a range of choices for me to look at. This was the first difficult bit as they were all beautiful. I opted for this asymmetric teardrop design in sterling silver with a cubic zirconia round-cut stone. I like it because it’s small and subtle, but the stone catches the light and the design isn’t like something you’d ever find in the supermarket – it looks special. My mum adores it.
Next up, we chatted about my mother-in-law and what she might like, and then X brought out a few choices of earrings. As I held them up to my ear to get a feel from them, I realised I want to get my own ears pierced just so I can wear more beautifully, sparkly pieces like the ones I chose for her. Here they are – 9ct white gold stud earrings with a Cubic Zirconia cluster that is super sparkly and so, so pretty. They look expensive, I reckon and my mother-in-law looked amazed when she saw them. It’s lovely to have been able to give her something special.
Next, Niall advised me on care options and told me about the insurance available. I opted to cover both pieces against theft, loss and damage for 12 months, which cost just 7 pounds for both pieces. Bargain. Finally, he boxed them up beautifully for me with a ribbon tied top, wrapped the boxes in tissue paper and put them in individual gift tagged bags.
He put a little ‘M’ on the bottom of one bag so that I’d know which one was my mum’s and which my mother-in-laws, and when I made an offhand comment about disliking walking through town with two jewellers bags, he immediately went and got a plain bag to put them in. It’s the little touches like this that I really appreciate.
As a last step, Beaverbrooks kindly emailed me bespoke ‘Beaverbrooks…Because’ gift tags with my own personal notes on them. The tags were thought up to recognise all the sweet, romantic, humourous reasons that people gift their jewellery this Christmas. Here they are:
I loved shopping for two important women in my life and it’s changed how I think about choosing gifts – the expert help was lovely and I’ll certainly be visiting Beaverbrooks again.
Disclosure: I was given a £100 voucher to use with Beaverbrooks. No payment was received for this post. All posts are 100% honest.
