That was my best weekend EVER – JD, 5
This weekend marked the arrival of an event which JD described as something he’d been waiting for his whole life (cute, eh?) – yep, we went to LEGOLAND Windsor. It was all part of a special treat give to all finalists of the MAD Blog Awards. Amazing!
So, on Saturday morning, laden with bags and snacks, JD, Miss J, my mum and I ambled onto buses, trains and cabs for what seemed like years, but was actually about 6 hours, including lunch in London.
We arrived at the LEGOLAND Hotel on the doorstep of the park feeling pretty exhausted but check-in was seamless and the kids were super excited to see the Pirate room.
Every detail in the room was perfect and there were even four LEGO minifigure packs waiting on the desk for us to build.
After a quick wash, we headed down for dinner at the Bricks Family Restaurant and were made to feel welcome.
Colouring kept them both busy.
It was buffet food – not of a great quality for £45, but fun all the same, and the kids approved of the novelty options and unlimited ice cream.
Miss J and JD couldn’t wait to get outside into the playground.
We all played for ages in the generously sized adventure playground with reassuringly well-padded astroturf. JD and Miss J were both loving the opportunity to climb and run after hours on trains.
Then, as it started to get cold, it was time to head back inside (I snuck back out for a drink with some fellow bloggers later – shhhh).
In the morning, we got up bright and early and enjoyed a tasty buffet breakfast of cereals, toast, juice and pastries.
Before heading into the park at last, to be met with all manner of amazing sights.
We made our way to a special screening of LEGO Legend of Chima 4D – an incredible short-film with great 3D effects, brought even more to life by fire and rain inside the cinema!
The kids loved it and as we left the cinema, they couldn’t wait to explore further.
With our VIP passes, we skipped the queues and got straight onto plenty of rides suitable for JD’s age (5 1/2). At 20 months, Miss J was too small to try any, but she was happy just to watch.
With the whole day to explore, we even had time to build some heroes. JD created an amazing new character (he’s had a lot of practice!)
All too soon we were back in the play area heading for the exit, but we couldn’t resist a play in the park first. Next time we go, we hope to stay for a week – I reckon we’d need that long to try everything.
So, Miss J lost a shoe somewhere in the park, we were all really, really tired, but it was a wonderful weekend – one we’ll never forget. Thank you LEGOLAND Windsor and the MAD Blog Awards!
Disclosure: we were given free VIP day access to the park and a discounted hotel rate. No payment was received for this post. All posts are 100% honest.
