As a busy (often too busy!) working mum with a passion for family, food and health, self-care is something I’m really passionate about. Listening to my body and learning what keeps it happy and balanced is something I think I’ve honed over the years and continue to hone every day.
Day to day, does your body feel good on the inside? Personally, if my energy or comfort levels aren’t at their best, I know that it’s my body’s way of telling me that it’s time to take stock. I have a good think about how my lifestyle might be impacting on my wellbeing (Have I been eating at irregular times? Burning the midnight oil?) and I make changes fast to get myself back on track. And they work!
It’s simple, really, the more I look after my digestive wellbeing, the better I feel in general. Life is smoother, happier – after all, the best digestion is digestion you don’t notice.
Of course, real lives are busy lives and it can be hard to find time to look after yourself, so here are some simple habits that help keep me on track:
- Meal planning. Sitting down before the big shop and mapping out the week’s meals makes it much easier to make consistently healthy, balanced choices even on busy days.
- Breakfast smoothies. I blend Activia with fruit and oats into a delicious, balanced smoothie on the go,
- Staying hydrated. Water bottles aren’t just for the gym! I carry one with me all the time to make sure I stay hydrated.
- Eating like clockwork. Regular mealtimes help keep me at my best. When life gets busy, I set phone reminders to keep mealtimes on track. It’s really worthwhile – everything seems to taste better when you feel good.
