Oh, it’s great! – JD, 6
Here is a book we highly recommend. Written by Pip Jones and illustrated by Ella Okstad, Squishy McFluff is the tale of a cheeky little girl, Ava, and her imaginary cat.
Since arriving at our house, Squishy and Ava have cemented their place among the children’s absolute favourite books and we read it a least a couple of nights a week.
The book is written in rhyme with a definite sense of Dr Seuss to both the rhythm and the illustrations. It’s nothing short of superb with comic twists and turns and a gentle lesson about the consequences of one’s actions.
Here’s what JD had to say in his own words:
It’s about a cat and a a pigeon and a girl. The pigeon flies away and the cat and the girl trip and become friends. I’d recommend it to the world.
I like the punctuation, such as the brackets, exclamation marks and dot, dot, dots that make me pause for a bit.
The illustrations are outlined very well. I like the cat and I like the speech bubbles.
Suishy McFluff is published by Faber & Faber and available in paperback for £5.99.
