Have you ever visited Dubai? It’s a real dream holiday destination, isn’t it? But perhaps not somewhere you’d automatically think of for a family getaway. It’s time to look again!
As well as being perfect for couples, Dubai is a brilliant option for a family holiday. For starters, winter temperatures are around 24C, and the warmer months average 30-40C, so you can be sure of a beautifully sunny holiday all year round. And then there’s the wide range of family-friendly attractions that Dubai has to offer; amazing beaches, gorgeous food, a vibrant culture, world-class shopping, and lots of exciting events and adventure pursuits to try. It really does tick all the boxes.
I have been counting down the days until my Dubai visit in October, and I can’t wait to sample all that this amazing destination has to offer, so I loved getting a little taste of Dubai earlier this week, right here in the UK, when I headed to Waterloo station for the #DubaiTomorrow event, hosted by Dubai Tourism.
As part of the Here Today, Dubai Tomorrow campaign, Dubai Tourism are taking over London Waterloo Station until 11 September with an incredible #DubaiTomorrow installation. As well as witnessing some amazing optical illusions, you can try out cutting-edge virtual reality and interactive games that immerse you in a mini Dubai experience.
The installation is setup in front of one of the platform exits, and the huge screen on the side shows live images of the area behind it, overlaid with special effects. When you stand in front of the screen, it’s as if there’s nothing there and you can still see all the commuters, but there are some rather unusual things going on too, as if a piece of Dubai has been transported into the station. Very cool.
You can also immerse yourself in a virtual trip to Dubai via the VR headsets; this was an incredible experience – I went skydiving, swam in the aquarium, went on a hot air balloon ride and more, all in three minutes! Thanks to Amanda for the photo!
There are 360-degree interactive video games to try out too, plus on-the-spot prizes and even a trip to Dubai being given away daily.
The #DubaiTomorrow installation will be at London Waterloo until 11th September, so if you haven’t already visited there’s still time. If you can’t make it, you can stay up-to-date with what’s going on at the installation via the Dubai Tourism handles:
