We’ve had the rather delightful task this week of testing and tasting the Cirque du Sweet Hamper from Harrods (RRP £200).
The hamper itself is a deep-brown seagrass basket with leather-style lid, embossed with the Harrods logo. It makes a big impact before you even open the box.
Pop the lid, and everything is carefully packed in polystyrene layers, so if you’re planning to buy it and take it over to the in-laws for Christmas, it should survive the journey just fine.
The contents itself is rather stunning. All of the sweets, biscuits and chocolates are Harrods’ own with Cirque du Sweet branding and none of them disappoint, each boasting a twist on the more common types of candy.
The marshmallows, for example, aren’t just marshmallows, they’re coated in red sugar and presented as clown noses – brilliant fun for kids. Meanwhile a box of chocolates, the ‘Curious Chocolate Selection’ is unlike any other, offering sherbet filled truffles and gold streaked boulders of chocolate coated honeycomb. This hamper isn’t just about sweets – it’s about all the fun of the circus!
Other treats include a sweet tin that doubles as a fully working music box, shortbread in a tin so pretty you’re guaranteed to use it for years to come, cream filled chocolates shaped and decorated like mini-doughnuts, a classic gumball machine complete with gumballs, and a jar of ‘Strawberries & Cream’ filled with wrapped, hard boiled sweets.
All in all, this is a generously and deliciously filled hamper. You could buy it as an extravagant gift for a young family with a sweet tooth, or buy it and share out the contents as individual gifts for anyone with a love of candy that doesn’t take itself to seriously.
