Nottingham is a vibrant and varied city, with plenty to see and do and a huge variety of wonderful places to eat and drink.
Recently, after a busy day shopping, playing or visiting the cinema, we've dropped into The Peacock Public House on Mansfield Road for a bite to eat.
Situated close to the centre of town, The Peacock is a cosy, Victorian public house with bags of character. The vinyl record player and vinyl collection is a rather lovely touch too.
The staff are friendly and well-trained, and the pub has made a name for itself in recent years by serving 100% homemade vegan food, alongside an impressive array of cask ales, fine wines and quality spirits.
From lunchtime, they offer a range of vegan sandwiches, and from 5pm until 8pm, there's a full vegan menu to choose from.
Mark is a fan of the pulled pork sandwich - a fresh and crisp ciabatta, filled with a juicy, meaty tasting "pork" drenched in plenty of smokey-sweet barbecue sauce. It's utterly delicious and comes with plenty of chunky chips and fresh salad.
Sticking to their 100% vegan promise, the sandwiches are served up with milk and egg free mayo. Excellent.
Meanwhile, I've fallen in love with the fish and chips - firm triangles of tofu wrapped in nori (seaweed) and coated in a light, bubbly beer batter. It's so tasty, with a texture so unlike anything usually available on a meat-free menu that it really feels like an extra special treat. It comes with firm and flavourful mushy peas, plenty of chunky chips and a lemon wedge. Perfect.
The kids, meanwhile, have discovered the joys of the battered sausage meal. Light, crisp batter encases two soft, moist, pork-like sausages, alongside a portion of beans, chunky chips and a lovely thick curry sauce.
We have yet to sample the rest of the menu, but with the lovely pub atmosphere and the excellent quality of food, we certainly plan to go back again...and again!

Is this is the UK? I like to travel and check out restaurants in other countries (I’m from the US). A vegan restaurant would definitely be a nice break from fast/fried food!

This menu looks and sounds scrumptious. I'm curious - is the BBQ "pork" made from jackfruit?
