This is a seriously decadent red velvet waffle recipe! A classic breakfast waffle batter is enriched with cocoa, sweetened and served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
Preheat your waffle maker or waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Measure the milk, eggs, vanilla, sugar and melted butter into a bowl. Whisk together.
In a second bowl, sift in the flour and cocoa and whisk together.
Pour the egg mixture into the bowl with the flour and cocoa and whisk together.
Add the red food colouring, whisk and add more colour as necessary to get a deep red colour.
Ladle the batter into your waffle maker or waffle iron. Take care not to overfill as the mixture will expand as it cooks. As a guide, the recipe makes 8 waffles.
Cook until set. In my waffle maker, they took 3-4 minutes to achieve a crisp outer and fluffy inner.
Stack the waffles onto plates, top with squirty cream and drizzle with chocolate sauce to serve.
