Air Fryer Mild Chicken Fajitas for Kids

    Jump to Recipe

You don’t need to get a single frying pan dirty to make these air fryer mild chicken fajitas for kids - everything fries right in the basket.

The diced chicken and sweet pepper strips are flavoured with smoked paprika and garlic granules for a mild but tasty dinner that's perfect for younger palates.

They're a great way to get everyone around the dinner table, well-fed and happy.

This recipe uses sweet smoked paprika which is made by smoking and drying sweet red peppers.

So while using paprika adds great flavour, it really isn't spicy in the sense of heat, unless you specifically buy a "hot" or "picante" variety.

To make your mild fajitas, you'll start by putting the diced chicken breast in the air fryer with a little oil, garlic granules and paprika and cooking until they start to colour.

You'll then add sliced sweet peppers and a dash of soy sauce and cook until everything is sizzling, cooked through and smelling incredible.

Finally, you'll serve your mildly spiced chicken and peppers up with soft tortillas, shredded lettuce, cheese, salsa, tomatoes and sour cream, all arranged in the middle of the table.

The idea is that everyone can dive in and make their fajitas exactly how they like them. It's always a hit with my family and any friends they have over, and helps the smiles and conversation go smoothly and freely.

Read on for the full recipe with detailed instructions and a helpful photograph for every step. And if you have any questions, just leave me a comment. Enjoy!

    Ingredients

    For the chicken and peppers

    • 400 g (14.1 oz) good quality chicken breast diced
    • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (canola oil)
    • 2 tsp garlic granules
    • 1 tsp smoked paprika sometimes labelled sweet, but not hot or picante
    • 1 red bell pepper cut into strips
    • 1 yellow pepper cut into strips
    • 1 tsp reduced salt soy sauce leave out for toddlers

    To serve

    • 8 flour tortillas gluten free, if required
    • 100 g (3.5 oz) cheddar cheese grated/shredded
    • 100 g (3.5 oz) iceberg lettuce shredded
    • 100 g (3.5 oz) baby plum tomatoes halved
    • 200 g mild salsa
    • 200 g sour cream

    Equipment

    • Weighing scales
    • Measuring spoons
    • Kitchen knife
    • Chopping board
    • Wooden spoon
    • Air fryer

    Instructions

Remove the grill pan from the air fryer.

Put the oil, chicken breast, garlic granules and paprika in the air fryer basket.

    Stir to evenly coat.

Set the air fryer to 180C/355F to the pan, cook for 10 minutes, shaking half way.

Add the peppers and soy sauce.

Cook for a further 10 minutes, shaking half way.

Microwave the tortilla wraps on a plate for a few seconds according to the pack instructions. This isn't essential, but it warms and softens the tortillas and tends to make them taste better.

Lay the table with the chicken mix, tortillas, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce.

Allow everyone to enjoy putting it all together themselves and eating!
