    Jump to Recipe

These sandwiches for afternoon tea are great fun as they're decorated like playing cards. Best served as part of a Mad Hatter themed tea party, packed lunch or picnic spread!

Playing card sandwiches - perfect for a Mad Hatter's tea party, picnic or children's party

Jam and chocolate spread on fluffy, soft white bread is always a winning treat, right?

I created these playing card sandwiches as part of a new series of food on the go.

    Here's how to make them.

    Ingredients

    • 8 slices white bread
    • 4 tbsp strawberry jam
    • 4 tbsp chocolate spread

    Equipment

    Instructions

Place all of the slices on top of each other.

Stack your slices of bread, ready to make your playing card sandwiches

Use a sharp knife to trim off the crusts.

Remove the crusts using a sharp knife

Spread two slices of bread with strawberry jam and two more slices of bread with chocolate.

Separate the slices and top two with strawberry jam, two with chocolate spread

Use the cookie cutters, scissors or a sharp knife to cut a little suit shape out of each corner.

Cut out hearts and spades in your slices of bread, using cutters or scissors

Sandwich the slices together to create playing card sandwiches and enjoy!

These playing card sandwiches are a delicious, fun treat for a themed birthday party or a Mad Hatter's tea party
