    Air Fryer Pizza Roll Ups

    Jump to Recipe

These air fryer pizza roll ups are a fun, fuss-free take on pizza night, made with ready-rolled puff pastry, simple toppings, and a quick cook time.

Crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside, they’re packed with cheesy, herby flavour, and onion and sweet pepper crunch.

Puff pastry gives these roll ups a lovely light texture with plenty of flake and crunch, while still being substantial enough to hold the filling.

And using store-bought puff pastry is super convenient and means these roll-ups are speedy enough to make for an ideal lunch, after-school snack or party bite.

A thin layer of tomato sauce forms the base, and you can use passata, marinara, pasta sauce, or even pizza sauce.

Whatever tomato sauce you have to hand will work, even ketchup at a pinch although I'm not a fan of that option as I find it too sweet.

Finely chopped red onion and green pepper add colour and a bit of bite to the finished roll ups.

You can switch them to any vegetables of your choosing, of course. A few chopped olives, sweetcorn or mushrooms would work well, or even some ham and bacon bits.

Grated cheddar melts beautifully to bind everything together and a sprinkle of dried oregano adds that classic pizza flavour.

Rolling the pastry firmly and sealing the edge with a little beaten egg helps keep the filling neatly tucked inside.

And cooking in the air fryer is quicker than cooking in the oven, plus it keeps everything crisp and evenly browned.

I like to serve these roll ups warm with a little marinara or garlic dip on the side. You can also pop them into lunchboxes and take on picnics to enjoy cold.

Read on for the full recipe with detailed instructions and a helpful photograph for every step. And if you have any questions, just leave me a comment. Enjoy!

    Ingredients

    • 1 green pepper finely chopped
    • 1 small red onion finely chopped
    • 320 g (11.3 oz) puff pastry ready-rolled sheet
    • 75 g (2.6 oz) passata or leftover pasta sauce
    • 100 g (3.5 oz) cheddar cheese grated/shredded (vegetarian if required)
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • 1 medium free range eggs beaten

    Equipment

    • Weighing scales
    • Measuring spoons
    • Kitchen knife
    • Chopping board
    • Pastry brush
    • Cheese grater
    • Air fryer

    Instructions

Take the pastry out of the fridge 15 minutes before you start cooking, so that it has time to become pliable.

    Unroll the pastry.

Spread with the tomato sauce, leaving an inch clear on one long edge.

Sprinkle the green pepper, red onion, and grated cheese on top.

Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and scatter the oregano.

Brush a little beaten egg along the clear edge of pastry.

Carefully roll the pastry up starting from the opposite long edge.

Pinch the joined seam together to seal.

If the pastry has become very soft, put it in the fridge for 15 minutes to firm up.

Preheat your air fryer according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Mine defaults to 200C for 4 minutes.

Place the rolled up pastry log on a board and cut into 8 equal slices.

Place four slices in your air fryer basket.

Brush with egg on the top and sides.

Set the air fryer to 200C/390F and cook for 15 minutes until puffed and golden.

    Flip with a slotted spatula.

Cook for 3 more minutes to ensure they're cooked through.

Repeat to cook the four remaining roll ups.
