Meat-free doesn’t mean missing out with these air fryer vegetarian pigs in blankets. They’re perfect for serving at festive parties, or as part of Christmas dinner.

And to clarify, when I say pigs in blankets, I mean that in the British sense i.e. sausages wrapped in bacon, not puff pastry, although I do have an air fryer vegetarian sausage roll recipe too!
The recipe is super simple because you’ll use store bought vegan sausages and vegan bacon. The ones I use are soya based, but there are loads of choices on the market, so go with what works for you.
I know a lot of people turn their nose up at vegetarian alternatives to meat products, but I like them!
Faux meats don’t make up the majority of my diet, and they never really successfully emulate the taste or texture or real meat, but they can be pretty darn tasty when judged on their own merit - and some have really simple ingredients with plenty of protein.
Making these air fryer vegetarian pigs in blankets involves pretty much the exact same method as you’d use with the meaty version.
You’ll wrap the sausages in bacon and place them in the air fryer. I also like to throw in a sprig or two of rosemary for some bonus flavour.
And because vegetarian meat alternatives typically contain a lot less fat than the meaty types, you’ll then brush them with oil before cooking in the air fryer. The meat-free bacon comes out crisp and a little chewy, the meat-free sausages tender and moist, just as they should be!
They’re great to serve at any time of year, but I do love making these at Christmas and I’m sure you will too.
Read on for the full recipe with detailed instructions and a helpful photograph for every step. And if you have any questions, just leave me a comment. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 8 vegetarian sausages
- 8 vegetarian streaky bacon rashers
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 small rosemary sprigs optional
Equipment
- Pastry brush
Instructions
Wrap each sausage with 1 strips of bacon, tucking each end of the bacon underneath the sausage.
Lightly oil your air fryer grill tray and then put the sausages in your air fryer basket. Leave a little space between sausages so that they don’t stick together.
Brush the sausages with oil.
Pop a couple of rosemary sprigs into the basket for flavour, if you like.
Set your air fryer to 160C/320F and bake for 20 minutes until the bacon is crisp
