This recipe is so much fun! It uses simple store-bought waffles as burger buns, housing a deliciously fruity apple burger.

The whole thing is packed full of extra flavour, thanks to fruit leather, peanut butter and yogurt, while also finishing off the burger-like effect.

    Here's how to make them.

    Ingredients

    • 4 toaster waffles gluten free
    • 1 green apples
    • 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter
    • 2 rolls strawberry fruit leather
    • 2 tbsp Greek yogurt

    Equipment

    Instructions

Ingredients to make the waffle apple burgers, shown on a chopping board

Cut the apple into slices approximately 1cm thick, you’ll need the best 4 rounds for your burgers, save the rest for snacks.

Sliced apple creates the 'burger' of these waffle apple burgers

Cut the core out of each slice.

Preparing the ingredients for the waffle apple burgers

Wrap a piece of fruit leather around each slice of apple, trimming so there is just a little overlap. You can use a dab of peanut butter to hold the leather in place, if you need to. These are your ‘burgers’.

Fruit leather is wrapped around the sliced apple

Cut the waffles using a cookie cutter or glass that is roughly the same size as your apple slices. These are your ‘burger buns’.

Circles of waffle are used for the burger 'buns' in this waffle apple burgers recipe

Spread four of the waffle discs with peanut butter.

Adding peanut butter to the waffle buns

Stack an apple slice on top of each one of the waffles.

    Assembling the waffle apple burgers

Spread with more peanut butter, filling the hole in the centre of each one.

Cutting out waffles for the top burger 'bun'

Dab on the yogurt in three places per slice, just near the edge, so that it will drip out a little. This is your ‘mayo’.

    Assembling the waffle apple burgers

Top each ‘burger’ with the remaining waffle discs.

    Enjoy!

    The finished waffle apple burgers!

Aren't they fun? You can even slice the waffle offcuts to create waffle 'fries'!
