This recipe is so much fun! It uses simple store-bought waffles as burger buns, housing a deliciously fruity apple burger.
The whole thing is packed full of extra flavour, thanks to fruit leather, peanut butter and yogurt, while also finishing off the burger-like effect.
Here's how to make them.
Ingredients
- 4 toaster waffles gluten free
- 1 green apples
- 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter
- 2 rolls strawberry fruit leather
- 2 tbsp Greek yogurt
Equipment
Instructions
Cut the apple into slices approximately 1cm thick, you’ll need the best 4 rounds for your burgers, save the rest for snacks.
Cut the core out of each slice.
Wrap a piece of fruit leather around each slice of apple, trimming so there is just a little overlap. You can use a dab of peanut butter to hold the leather in place, if you need to. These are your ‘burgers’.
Cut the waffles using a cookie cutter or glass that is roughly the same size as your apple slices. These are your ‘burger buns’.
Spread four of the waffle discs with peanut butter.
Stack an apple slice on top of each one of the waffles.
Spread with more peanut butter, filling the hole in the centre of each one.
Dab on the yogurt in three places per slice, just near the edge, so that it will drip out a little. This is your ‘mayo’.
Top each ‘burger’ with the remaining waffle discs.
Enjoy!
Aren't they fun? You can even slice the waffle offcuts to create waffle 'fries'!

Oh wow what an amazing idea! My kids are always more likely to choose the waffle over an apple but this way they get the best of both worlds! They also look like so much fun to make together!
